Structured equine-assisted learning and nature-based interventions to support SEND and complex social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs
Complementing your provision
The Wild Mane Project works alongside Alternative Provision settings to provide structured equine-assisted learning and nature-based programmes that support children and young people beyond the classroom.

We understand that every participant has different strengths, experiences, interests and needs. Our role is not to replace the work already being carried out by your setting, but to complement it through carefully planned programmes that support agreed outcomes and contribute towards the wider goals of the placement.

Whether a participant is working towards improved engagement, emotional wellbeing, communication, independence, social development or preparation for future learning, our programmes are designed to provide meaningful experiences that encourage progress in a supportive outdoor environment.

Flexible to Your Needs
Every Alternative Provision setting is different, and so are the children and young people they support. Rather than offering a fixed model, we work alongside your setting to provide the support that best meets your needs.

Whether you are looking for an individual programme, support for a small group, regular visits or a bespoke programme designed around specific outcomes, we can work with you to create an approach that fits your participants and your provision.

We do not believe support should be limited by labels or diagnoses. Instead, we focus on understanding the participants, the outcomes you are working towards and how equine-assisted learning and nature-based experiences can provide meaningful opportunities for development.

If you feel an individual participant, a group of participants or your setting as a whole could benefit from working with The Wild Mane Project, we would be pleased to discuss how we can support you.
Our Approach
Every participant is different, which is why no two programmes are the same.

Our programmes are delivered using therapeutic approaches through equine-assisted learning and nature-based experiences. Sessions are child-led within a structured framework, with activities adapted throughout the programme to reflect each participant's interests, needs and progress whilst maintaining a clear focus on the agreed outcomes.

Where participants are enrolled onto a programme rather than attending a one-off session, we begin by gathering baseline information using appropriate outcome measures. This helps us understand where they are starting from, monitor progress throughout the programme and provide meaningful evidence of the outcomes achieved.

Monitoring Progress
Progress is rarely linear. As the programme develops, we continually observe how participants engage, communicate, solve problems, build relationships and respond to different experiences.
These observations help us adapt future sessions to meet the participant's changing needs whilst continuing to work towards the agreed outcomes. Progress is monitored through ongoing observations, recognised outcome measures and regular reviews.
Safeguarding and Welfare
The welfare of both participants and our ponies is at the heart of everything we do.

We maintain high standards of safeguarding, health and safety, risk management and equine welfare, ensuring every programme is delivered within a safe, supportive and well-managed environment.
Getting Started
Every programme begins with a conversation.

Whether you are looking to support an individual participant, a group of participants or develop a bespoke programme, we'll work with you to create an approach that complements your provision and supports the outcomes you're working towards.
