At The Wild Mane Project, the wellbeing of our ponies, participants, land, and wider community all matter together.

Horse Welfare & Environment
At The Wild Mane Project, the wellbeing of our ponies, participants, land, and wider community all matter together.
Every Pony is an Individual
Our ponies are not treated as tools or equipment. Each horse has their own personality, needs, limits, and preferences, and the way we work is adapted around them. Some horses enjoy different types of activity than others, and sessions are planned with this in mind.

Working Alongside the Herd
Our site is shared carefully between working areas, grazing areas, wildlife spaces, and community access routes. Participants are supported to understand boundaries, respect shared outdoor spaces, and learn safe, thoughtful interaction around animals and nature.

Learning Through Responsibility & Connection
Through time with the ponies and outdoors, children, young people, and adults learn practical responsibility, communication, observation, teamwork, and respect for the environment around them.

The Community In Our Environment
The Wild Mane Project is grateful for the support of local residents and community groups who help care about the environment around the field and the wellbeing of the ponies. We work alongside local community groups, including Friends of the Horses Field, who help protect the nature, wildlife, and character of the space. Some members of the group live alongside the field and help keep a watchful eye over the herd, something we greatly appreciate as part of the wider community around The Wild Mane Project.

Respecting Shared Outdoor Spaces

Activities & Group Working
Activities at The Wild Mane Project may include grooming and interaction with the ponies, groundwork and handling, small rides or hacks where appropriate, wilderness living skills, bushcraft, wildlife activities, field care, and outdoor group activities. We keep group sizes small and work at a pace that supports both participant wellbeing and horse welfare.
